Lal Salaam, also known as Red Salute, is a sports drama film in the Tamil language. It was directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions. The film features Rajinikanth in a special appearance, while Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth play the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Vignesh, Livingston, Senthil, Jeevitha, K. S. Ravikumar, and Thambi Ramaiah.

The film was announced in November 2022, revealing its title. Principal photography began in March 2023 and concluded in August 2023. A. R. Rahman composed the music, Vishnu Rangasamy handled the cinematography, and B. Pravin Baaskar edited the film.

Lal Salaam premiered in theaters on February 9, 2024.

Songs

Thaman S. teamed up with Babu for the fifth time to compose the soundtrack album and background score for the film. Their previous collaborations include Dookudu (2011), Businessman (2012), Aagadu (2014), and Sarkaru Vaari Paata (2022). Thaman also joined forces with Trivikram for the third time after working together on Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018) and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020). Thaman began working on the film's music in June 2022. The first single, "Dum Masala," was released on November 7, 2023, followed by the second single, "Oh My Baby," on December 13, 2023.

The official trailer of the film was released on 7 January 2023, while the first glimpse was unveiled on 31 May 2023, coinciding with Babu's father Krishna's 80th birth anniversary. This special glimpse was attached to the 4K re-release of Mosagallaku Mosagadu in theaters

The film Guntur Kaaram is set to hit theaters globally on January 12, 2024. Initially planned for a theatrical release on April 28, 2023, the film's launch was postponed to August 11, 2023, and later to January 13, 2024, to align with the Sankranti festival. Eventually, the release date was moved up to January 12, 2024.

Regarding home media, Netflix acquired the digital distribution rights for the film. It premiered on Netflix starting from February 9, 2024.

Reception

The critical reception of the film was mostly negative, with critics criticizing its direction, screenplay, plot, background score, and soundtrack. However, Mahesh Babu's performance was highly praised. Anandu Suresh of The Indian Express gave the film 2/5 stars and mentioned that Mahesh Babu's acting was the only redeeming factor in an unnecessarily prolonged film by Trivikram. BVS Prakash from Deccan Chronicle also gave the film 2/5 stars and commented on how director Trivikram Srinvas failed to create a strong script that could match Mahesh Babu's larger-than-life image.

Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth's highly-anticipated action drama, Lal Salaam, has finally released worldwide today in all languages. Directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Rajini's elder daughter, the film revolves around cricket and stars young heroes Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles.

Despite the success of Rajini's previous movie, Jailer, which became the third highest-grossing dubbed movie in Telugu with over Rs 47 crore share, the buzz surrounding Lal Salaam among Rajini's Telugu fans and trade circles was quite ordinary. However, to everyone's surprise and disappointment, the first day first shows of Lal Salaam have been canceled due to low occupancy in several centers across the Telugu states. Fans who had booked tickets online have already received refunds, while the fate of the film's future shows remains uncertain.

In Lal Salaam, Rajini will be seen in an extended cameo as Moideen Bhai, a Mumbai underworld don. The film's soundtrack is composed by AR Rahman, and it has been produced by leading Tamil production house, Lyca Productions, on a grand scale.

In Lal Salaam, a daring resident of a town embarks on a journey to reform his criminal behavior and ultimately redeems himself, gaining the admiration of the very individuals who once rejected him.
